It is difficult to overstate the impact made by the Ferrari Testarossa at its Paris debut in October 1984. Breathtaking in every respect, from its name recalling Modena’s all-conquering sports racers of the late 1950s to its dramatic yet functional Pininfarina styling, the Testarossa was an instant icon. Then again, only a statement like the Testarossa could succeed the Berlinetta Boxer, another Pininfarina design introduced in 1973. While often compared to Lamborghini’s various Countach derivatives of the era, the Testarossa was newer and more advanced throughout. In addition to its muscular bodywork declaring its purity of purpose, Ferrari’s new supercar earned praise for uncanny drivability and passenger comfort. In fact, the UK’s Octane magazine editors summed the Testarossa as “a remarkably user-friendly supercar,” one capable of “mighty performance delivered in a smooth manner by a sweet and free-revving flat-12.”

Sired directly from Ferrari’s 312 T Grand Prix racing engine design dating back to 1975, the Testarossa’s mid-mounted 180-degree, 4.9-litre engine featured Bosch K-Jetronic electronic fuel injection and four valves per cylinder, delivering 390 horsepower and making the Testarossa the world’s most powerful sports car at launch. While demanding few compromises from occupants, the Testarossa continues to deliver blistering performance with acceleration from rest to 60 mph in just over 5.0 seconds, the ¼-mile in 12.9 seconds, and a top speed approaching 180 mph. In fact, the Testarossa was the world’s fastest production car throughout its 11-year production run ending in 1995. Handling is equally brilliant, with 0.90 g delivered on the skidpad. Based upon a rigid tubular-frame chassis with fully independent suspension, the Testarossa’s underpinnings included precise rack-and-pinion steering and large four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. Blessed with truly great road feel and Ferrari’s classic gated shift lever controlling the five-speed manual gearbox, the Testarossa seamlessly blends classic and modern Ferrari generations and continues to deliver an exceptional drive today. The 512 TR debuted in 1991 and heralded a power increase to 428 horsepower at 6,750 RPM with comprehensive updates to the engine, driveline, brakes, engine mounts, tires, and interior. Pininfarina also contributed body updates that better integrated the spoilers and engine cover, along with other tweaks, while providing more of a familial resemblance to the design of Ferrari’s contemporary V-8 348. By 1992, 512 TR pricing was from $212,160 USD.

Completed in September 1992, this striking 512 TR was originally supplied new to the U.S. market as one of only 408 examples to do so over a short three-year production span. Its original all-Nero livery is a refreshing break from the typical Ferrari palette, and remains in original and very well-preserved condition with less than 33,000 original miles traveled. The TR retains all factory identification decals, plaques, trim, glass, upholstery, and is offered complete with ALL original matching manuals in their factory leather folio, plus a tool case, emergency light in pouch, both folding keys and key code tags, a model brochure, Ferrari Classiche “Red Book” and plaque, a tailored Ferrari car cover, and all records from new. With over two decades of meticulous servicing provided by factory-authorized dealerships and retaining its original cosmetics, this 1993 Ferrari 512 TR further benefits from an engine-out, complete major service performed just 2,000 miles ago and comes with clean Carfax® and AutoCheck® vehicle history reports. As such, this is a first-class example of the refined Ferrari Testarossa for the discerning modern classic and ‘Supercar’ connoisseur. Ticking all the boxes for an astute 12-cylinder Ferrari purchase, it marks a great opportunity with full history known from new, limited keepers, and an impressive dossier of documentation and service records included.
