It has rightly been said that, in terms of styling, Cadillac’s Series 62 line was to 1941 what Cord’s 810/812 series was to 1936/37, what the Duesenberg Model J was to 1929, and what the first LaSalle was to 1927. Designed under Harley Earl’s leadership, the 1941 Cadillac models possessed that incomparable blend of style, grace, and athleticism, coupled with the marque’s engineering prowess and well-deserved reputation for excellence. Continuing to stand as an unqualified masterpiece of subtle, flowing curves, the 1941 Cadillac lineup was extremely important and set forth the basic design language that would define Cadillac styling for many years to come. Interestingly, the final design chosen by Harley Earl for 1941 was penned by GM stylist Art Ross, with major cues including the Cord 810/812-inspired frontal treatment and horizontal "egg-crate" grille. Bill Mitchell, who would become Harley Earl’s handpicked successor, quietly influenced Earl’s final decision and contributed the clean, fender-mounted headlamp placement that he had long favored.

As written by former GM design director David R. Holls in Maurice D. Hendry’s book Cadillac, Standard of the World, Cadillac’s cohesive designs for 1941 stood in stark contrast to the attempts of Chrysler and Lincoln to facelift their existing designs during the immediate pre-WW II era. According to Mr. Holls, “Cadillac had at least set some ground rules and were constantly refining, until a number of factors solidified in this particular car. Both GM and Cadillac had a very controlled ability to detail an automobile that was lacking in the competition. The discipline of Earl’s designers showed nowhere more clearly than in this car. It marked a return to a well-organized “power” look, suggesting what dwelled beneath the hood.” One Cadillac engine was available for 1941 – the smooth and nearly-silent 346-cid V-8, delivering 150 factory-rated horsepower. With its generous 126-inch wheelbase and independent front suspension, ride and handling characteristics of the various Series 62 models remain quite good, even by today’s standards, making Cadillacs of the immediate pre-war era great choices for today’s collectors and enthusiasts, especially those who like to enjoy their classics on the open road.

This glamorous 1941 Series 62 Convertible Coupe continues to benefit from a quality restoration and presents very well as it is now offered. Handsomely finished in Burgundy over Butternut Tan upholstery, it is further enhanced by excellent bright trim, rear-fender skirts for a sleek presence, and a Victoria-style convertible top with blind rear quarters – a configuration sadly discontinued after 1941. Thanks to its generous 126-inch wheelbase, this gorgeous Cadillac provides spacious passenger accommodations, renowned for comfort on classic tours and extended drives. The finely sculptured dashboard features a simulated wood grain finish and the instruments and large-diameter electric clock convey the look of finely crafted jewelry. Additional features and amenities include a factory radio, deluxe heater, and factory-optional power top. As expected, power for this fine convertible comes from Cadillac’s dependable 346 cubic-inch, L-head V-8 engine rated at 150 horsepower, with power delivered by a standard three-speed manual transmission. The engine compartment is clean and nicely detailed with correct finishes and proper components in place. The overall fit and finish is quite outstanding, and it is equally ready for the show field or touring enjoyment. Recognized as a CCCA Full Classic® automobile, this 1941 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe is a sure-fire attention-getter with a reputation for being a very comfortable tour car.
