Penned by young GM designer William L. “Bill” Mitchell and introduced in 1938, the Cadillac Series 60 Special Sedan gained immediate acclaim as a design masterpiece. Highly influential, the Series 60 Special Sedan foreshadowed many of the advanced styling concepts devised at Harley Earl’s GM Styling department that would eventually be applied to the rest of the Cadillac model lineup and filtered through the other GM Divisions. Its handsome and modern body featured a convertible-style steel roof, thin pillars for great visibility, a dramatically notched rear treatment, and elongated rear deck with integral luggage compartment. Running boards were eliminated, and floors lowered, with a unique “double-dropped” frame.

The Series 60 Special was only mildly updated for 1939 and 1940, in keeping with the rest of the Cadillac line. Further revisions for 1941 resulted in what many experts regard the finest version of Mitchell’s classic Series 60 Special, a visual and mechanical improvement of the existing design that continues to be recognized as one of the most significant and attractive automotive designs of any era. Most notably, the massive, horizontal grille and prominent front-end styling would continue to serve as Cadillac hallmarks for years to come. The 1941 models also marked the second year of Fleetwood’s exclusive production of 60 Special bodies. Cadillac’s renowned engineering prowess yielded greater output from the 346 cid V-8 engine, now rated at 150 silky-smooth horsepower. Possessing excellent road manners and primarily intended for the sophisticated owner-driver, the Series 60 Special was a limited-production Cadillac model with just 4,100 produced for 1941, regarded by many to be the best model year.

Rightly recognized as a CCCA Full Classic® automobile, this 1941 Cadillac Series 60 Special Sedan features a new, high quality paint finish, excellent bright trim, and factory fog lamps. The 346-cid Cadillac V-8 engine resides within a highly detailed engine compartment, features porcelainized exhaust manifolds, and delivers power to the road through a synchronized three-speed manual transmission. Correctly trimmed in grey cloth upholstery, the spacious passenger compartment is highlighted by a wood grain dash, Deluxe steering wheel, and a Deluxe heater and radio. As offered, this 1941 Cadillac Series 60 Special stands as an unqualified milestone of pre-war automobile design. Stately, comfortable, enjoyable, and proudly displaying the genius of eventual GM design chief Bill Mitchell, this CCCA Full Classic® is ready for enjoyment and will certainly take pride of place within any collection featuring the finest automotive designs ever conceived.
