Always a wellspring of great competition cars, the glorious brilliant red worn by the likes of Ferrari, Maserati and Fiat have been a dominating force around European racetracks for over a century. Firmly residing in this revered family is Alfa Romeo. Always benefiting from the lessons gained from competition and steeped in racing glory, Alfa Romeo’s engineering prowess translated seamlessly to its road cars – many of which rank among the finest ever designed and built. One of the most highly regarded Alfa Romeo models is undoubtedly the Giulietta, introduced in 1954, and its variants. The first “small” Alfa and a phenomenal success for its maker, the Giulietta was highly regarded when new and remains coveted today. Instantly, the Giulietta earned the praise of the world’s motoring journalists for its sensational all-around driving experience, delectable handling and, of course, Pinin Farina coachwork exemplified by the adventurous open Spider. These attributes are all clearly demonstrated in this wonderful and very well-maintained 1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce 750F Spider, one of just 2,796 examples produced.

Correctly finished in striking white over black livery, this 750 F-series Giulietta Spider retains its tunnel-case gearbox, sheet metal, and “466” body-number stampings. The previous caretakers of 14 years were very attentive to the Giulietta's proper upkeep, and it served them well throughout their tenure. Fit and finish is consistent throughout the vehicle with older but presentable and glossy paint nicely complemented by bright chrome trim and Vredestein tires mounted on vented steel wheels. It is believed the current paintwork was applied 25 to 30 years ago, while the seat covers and folding top were refreshed 14 years ago. The cockpit is attractively complemented by seats and door panels with smart red piping, red carpeting, and correct vinyl floor mats. A factory radio-delete plate remains in place, all the better to enjoy the delicious Weber-carbureted DOHC engine without distraction. An original jack, tire iron, and spare wheel are stowed behind the seats. Both luggage and engine compartments are very clean and orderly in presentation and a correct rubber mat lines the trunk. Consistent with the rest of the vehicle, the undercarriage is solid and retains the original sheet metal and frame supports. In 2016, the engine was removed and given a complete top-to-bottom engine rebuild including new internals by the Alfa’s longtime service provider, Auto Europe of Birmingham, Michigan. Service invoices document maintenance and the engine rebuild.

Appropriately equipped for a great driving experience with Weber DCOE-series carburetors and upgraded spark-plug wires, the Veloce is also accompanied by all original intake components including the sandcast 40 DCO3 carburetors, airbox, intake plenum, carburetor linkage, clamps and hoses plus Bosch generator, ignition coil, and correct ‘green’ plug wires. All electrical items on the vehicle remain in proper working order, including the lights, gauges, horn, and windshield wipers, while the mechanical aspects are “on the button” with the Giulietta retaining the tightness, quick engine response, and overall peppiness that these cars are renowned for delivering in abundance. Most recently, the expert consignor performed an engine-compression test, with documented readings of 170 PSI on all four cylinders. Only 40,780 miles of use are recorded at the time of cataloguing. A real “turn-key” example with a fantastic diving feel, this 1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta 750F Spider Veloce is complete with service manuals and Alfa Romeo Certificate. Eligible for important vintage driving events across the globe, it stands ready for instant enjoyment and with enduring collectability.
