Many great motorcars have traded hands in Auburn over the years, and 2010 looks to be no exception. This years wholly reinvigorated auction schedule encompasses newcomer Classical Event Auctions first annual Auburn Classical Event Auction, set to run from Friday, September 3rd through Sunday, September 5th. Auctions America will also host its first ever Auburn sale at the Kruse Auction Park, with emphasis on Detroit muscle, customs, and hot rods. Consignments range from a classic 1932 Ford Five-Window Coupe to a like-new 2008 Ferrari F430. Resident premier auction company Worldwide Auctioneers has expanded its own event, The Auburn Auction, to an exciting three day, 450 car line-up in addition to its prestigious Saturday evening catalogue auction of 80 exceptional motorcars. Highlights include an iconic pair of veteran 1950’s Indy 500 racers, each a documented original with race history, the ex-Herbert C. Hoover 1932 Cadillac 452-B V16 Imperial Limousine, and a stunning 1929 Duesenberg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton by LeBaron, one of the most original surviving Duesenbergs.

Live auction action is also to be found at the fifth annual Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum Benefit Extravaganza on Thursday, September 2nd, as the town’s celebrated Museum hosts its primary annual fundraiser. Held in the original, ornate 1930s art deco showroom of the Auburn Automobile Company, the evening culminates in a live auction of eight to ten high quality cars, among them a stately 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton and a pristine 1959 Cadillac Sedan DeVille.

Celebrating “The Year of The Duesenberg” and its own 55th Annual Reunion, The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club will present The Ab Jenkins Memorial Duesenberg Exhibition of Speed & Stinson Fly-in. Visitors can look forward to the remarkable spectacle of Duesenberg motorcars racing side by side in the ultimate gentleman’s drag race, heralded by a spectacular fly-in of vintage Stinson aircraft and B-25 World War ll Bomber. This year’s Interstate Batteries Special Exposition will showcase a display of Rochester-Duesenberg Motorcars, the extremely rare passenger cars produced from 1912-1927 and powered by Duesenberg racing engines.

Festivities run from Thursday, September 2nd through Monday, September 6th, 2010. Ongoing updates and a complete schedule are available from the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival at 260.925.3600 or www.acdfestival.org. Both the Dekalb County Visitors Bureau and Dekalb Chamber Partnership also carry online information on this and other local events, like the awesome Sculptures on the Square exhibit by American sculptor Seward Johnson, presented by The Auburn Art Commission and on display in downtown Auburn through September 15.

“Auburn has long been the bedrock of the collector car community,” said Auburn Mayor, Norm Yoder. “Over the years some of the most important cars ever built were bought and sold here, by people who made the journey to the Auburn Automobile Company in the 1920s and ‘30s and in later years, to auction. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum and the National Automotive and Truck Museum of the United States (NATMUS), housed in the original Auburn Automobile Company headquarters and factory buildings and the celebrated Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, for decades attracting visitors from across the U.S. and overseas, bear testament to this town’s unique heritage. We are all passionate about building upon this inheritance and ensuring that Labor Day Weekend in Auburn is the undisputed destination of choice for automobile enthusiasts, this year and far into the future.”
