Worldwide Auctioneers gears up for its debut on the Monterey Peninsula with an outstanding selection of world-class motorcars

Auburn, Indiana. July 24, 2017. Pacific Grove will play host to an outstanding selection of world-class motorcars during Monterey Car Week next month, as Worldwide Auctioneers gears up for its auction debut on the Monterey Peninsula with an exceptional selection of race cars, pre-war classics, sports and supercars. Headlining The Pacific Grove Auction on August 17th is a stunning 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Berlinetta, an extremely rare and beautifully restored coach-built legend from the immediate pre-war period, with outstanding performance as well as exceptional looks. Also lined up to go under the hammer is a rare and remarkably well-documented 1937 Delahaye 135 M Coupe with Coachwork by Dubos Frères, offering exciting one-off custom coachwork and spectacular bureau-style “rollback” roof. “We love the history of the car and it is such a gorgeous example from every angle. Some of the greatest automotive designs in history came about during the ‘30s and this Delahaye is a testament to the great coach builders of the period,” said Rod Egan, Principal and Auctioneer.

Another car with a wonderful story set to grace the sale is “The Lieutenant’s Speedster,” a thrilling find in today’s collector car market, having never been offered for public sale. The 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster comes with a fascinating history – just one owner from new, a recently-minted Lieutenant in the United States Air Force stationed in Germany who purchased the car direct from Porsche in Stuttgart. This Ruby Red Speedster was bought shortly before the Lieutenant’s pending reassignment to the United States. Through multiple postings over the following decades with the USAF, it was a beloved member of his family until his eventual passing in 2016 at age 87. Documentation accompanying this exceptionally pure Speedster is simply incredible and all housed within a military-issued box for safekeeping.

Racing enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting selection of European and American racecars, including a wonderfully preserved example of early post-war French Grand Prix history, an unrestored 1948 Simca-Gordini Grand Prix Monoposto, raced in top level European and Argentine events, with Jean-Pierre Wimille and Prince Bira among its legendary drivers. Also with impeccable racing pedigree is a multiple award-winning 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L-88 Sunray-DX Race Car, built by Don Yenko with factory L-88 engine, raced at the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona with the GT-class lap record at the 1968 Sebring 12 hours. Another impressive motorcar lined up to go under the hammer is a stunning one of a kind early production 1940 BMW 328 Roadster with Coachwork by Touring, offered for sale completely without reserve and an extraordinary 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo, the first example ever to be made available at auction and easily one of the hardest supercars to acquire today.

“Here at Worldwide our emphasis has always been on quality not on volume,”’ said John Kruse, Principal & Auctioneer.” “Our aim is to ensure that every car we consign is the absolute best of its type and we’re proud that guests at our inaugural Pacific Grove Auction will enjoy an outstanding selection of cars that are just that - the very best of their kind.”
