The 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is the pinnacle of the iconic ďPagodaĒ line of SLs. Spanning 1963 to 1971, the 280SLís W113 chassis, more popularly known as the Pagoda Benz for its uniquely styled roof, combined Mercedes unmatched elegance with more modern, clean lines than the previous generationís softer curves. This was an updated, sleek style that became both classic and iconic, thanks in no small part to its quintessential Pagoda roof. Although the 280SL had much in common with W113 predecessors, the new 2.8-litre, inline six-cylinder engine with overhead-cam and Bosch fuel-injection delivered 180 horsepower, which was significantly more rumble under the hood than then previous 230 and 250 SLs. Torque was ratcheted up and a new four-speed automatic and five-speed manual gearbox were available, although the four-speed manual was still standard. The 280SL continued to boast unparalleled Mercedes-Benz luxury with plush, comfortable seats, striking legible gauges and Blaupunkt radios. New safety features offered an energy-absorbing steering column, advanced seat belts and new taillights with yellow turn signals. The pagoda generation of the flagship SL delivered speed, handling and an entirely unique look thatís simultaneously timeless yet represents a snapshot of its era. With only 8,047 of the Mercedes-Benz 280SL ever produced, this model continues to grow in desirability each year.

A true gem, this elegant, dark blue 1969 Mercedes 280SL boasts matching numbers for chassis, gearbox, as well as the engine, and is complete with original black California plates. With only two long-term owners and a mere 65,397 original miles, this beautiful example is in meticulously kept condition and has only seen well-executed cosmetic restoration and recent servicing. The paint job retains this 280SLís original deep blue color code. The roadster has both a hard top and soft top; the hard top has been repainted in the original dark blue and the soft top is newly fitted with the original color as well. In the cockpit, the dashboard is all-original, including factory radio, instruments and tools, which all reveal a beautiful well-kept patina. The seats are original MB-tex blue interior and remain in very nice condition. The car has received correct, new carpeting, but retains the factory rubber floor mats. Under the hood, is the original four-speed gearbox and engine; it has power steering, new tires, sound brakes and retains a flawless driving history. If you are in the market for a Mercedes-Benz 280SL with all matching numbers that still sparkles like new curbside, this midnight blue charmer is your car!
